How to choose the right storage unit size

How much storage space do you need?

Picking the right size takes only a couple of minutes if you start from the rooms in your home. A rule of thumb: the furniture of one room needs roughly 2–3 m² of storage when packed tidily.

A quick estimate by room

• 1 m² – a few boxes, documents, seasonal clothes
• 3 m² – the full contents of one room
• 6–8 m² – the furniture of a smaller flat
• 10–13 m² – a larger home or business stock

If in doubt, size up one step — being able to move around inside the unit makes a real difference.

3 tips for space-saving packing

Use uniform boxes and put the heavy ones on the bottom. Disassemble furniture where you can and fill the gaps with smaller items. Leave a narrow aisle so you can reach the back.
